MEDIATOR

Richard as Mediator

Richard’s approach to mediation is grounded in decades of trial experience across commercial, family and estate litigation — experience that makes it easier to identify real issues quickly, anticipate obstacles and find pathways to resolution that participants may not have seen themselves.

He holds appointment as a Supreme Court of NSW Panel Mediator and has been an active participant in the NSW Bar Association’s ADR Committee from its early years, helping develop and advance dispute resolution initiatives. He has served as a director representing the NSW Bar Council at the Australian Disputes Centre.

Mediation is available for matrimonial property, deceased estate (including Succession Act claims) and commercial disputes and other disputes. Questions at any stage — including before proceedings commence — are always welcome.

Hearing Venue

64 Castlereagh Street Chambers is available for mediations without charge (see Chambers). It includes private areas for separate parties and representatives, full-day amenities and flexible hours. A senior paralegal is typically available to assist with logistics and as a contact point.

Representing Parties at Mediations

Experience as a mediator gives Richard a distinctive advantage when representing parties: having seen from the inside how participants and their representatives either help or obstruct resolution, he understands how a mediator reads the room and what drives the dynamics of the day. He uses that understanding to position a client’s case, manage the process and identify the moments when pressure or flexibility will be most effective. The goal is always practical resolution on the best available terms.
